cape cod day 3

on our last morning on the cape, we drove to chatham in the hopes of seeing some seals. and did we ever see some seals. there were tons of them swimming around and showing off...adorable.

after watching the seals, we drove downtown and had a lovely lunch and then we hit the road to come back to new york. it was a perfect long weekend.

cape cod day 2 (part 2)

after ptown, we got in the car and stopped in truro to check out truro vineyards (we love wine nearly as much as we love ghosts). we had a lovely time at the tasting and then bought a bottle and some cheese and spent a lovely hour drinking, eating, and relaxing.

while we were in truro, we also stopped by horton's campground where my mom spent her summers when she was a kid. surprise, mom! :)

next, we went to the highland light to see the lighthouse and the view. GORGEOUS!

i'm still not over that hawk. amazing.

cape cod day 2 (part 1)

on our second day, we got up and decided to spend the morning in provincetown (or ptown as it's lovingly called).  we spent the morning just walking around and watching people and their dogs. and we did a little shopping, too.

i know that i went a little crazy with the dog pictures, but they were so cute i couldn't stand it. also, if you're ever in ptown, go to the purple feather and get some of their gelato. it's the best i've ever had.

cape cod day 1 (part 1)

on our first full day in cape cod, we spent the morning in the salt marsh in eastham. not having any set plans or any idea what to expect, we just parked the car and started walking. when we got down there, all we were saw was water and some swans. not disappointing, but not exciting either. but then we found a trail and decided to take it. as we were walking, we came across an old man on a bike who stopped us and asked where we were from. before either of us had a chance to answer, he said, "oh, you must be from new york city." we were amazed. when we asked him how he knew, he just smirked and said that he could "just tell". hmmmmm. well, after chatting with him for awhile he let us know that if we continued to follow the trail, we would come across a really beautiful overlook. so we took it. the trail led through a wooded area that was hilly, so it seemed that we were hiking. not a big deal, but anyone who knows me knows that hiking is like a four-letter word to me. but i did it because i really wanted to see what was up there. and boy were we rewarded. here are some of the pictures i took of the marsh and the views.

as we were walking back down the trail and out of the woods, we came across a young family. the father took one look at us and said, "boy, i feel underdressed".  that's when lisa and i looked at each other and realized that most people don't go hiking in skirts, dresses, scarves, and jewelry. no wonder that guy thought we were from new york.

a very early morning at camp

this past mother's day, i took the train upstate to surprise my mom at camp. you will rarely hear me complain about camp (it is my favorite place on earth, after all) but my father wakes up at the crack of dawn every morning and turns the tv to its maximum volume. i'm deaf and i can hear it through the wall in my room - it wakes me up every time. and i usually raise hell about it. but on mother's day, it was so beautiful down by the lake that i just had to grab my camera, my sister, copper and bronze (my parents' dogs) and a cup of coffee and head down to the dock. i can't remember a more peaceful or beautiful morning.

this is probably the only time in my life i will ever thank you for waking me up, dad. :)

camp and the ducks who live there

everyone is always asking me about camp because i'm always talking about camp and how awesome it is. camp is my family's summer house in the adirondacks and it's the most beautiful and wonderful place on earth. i always feel so at peace when i'm there...the lake, the fresh air, family, friends...it's awesome. i'm sure there will be a lot of camp pictures on this blog, but for now here are a couple i took of the house from our boat and a bunch of the family of ducks that come back every summer. when i was last there, i spent the better part of an afternoon watching the ducks swim, nap, squawk, fish and interact with each other. it was fascinating - they all have such different personalities. i took about 8 billion pictures of them. here are just a few. pay close attention to the male - the colors on his head and underfeathers are so brilliant, it's hard to believe they exist in nature.

i wish i were there right now.
