john shade (formerly dave godowsky) opened the evening and played a lovely set of songs on the accoustic guitar.  he mentioned more than once that this was his first ever performance as john shade.  i enjoyed it thoroughly.

leo allen and bobby tisdale emceed the haiti benefit at mhow and did a fine job of keeping the crowd entertained in between acts.

wyatt cenac @ music hall of williamsburg - 1.23.10

if you have never seen wyatt cenac on the daily show, you are missing out. he's hilarious and has the best delivery...he was great.

my brightest diamond @ music hall of williamsburg - 1.23.10

shara worden aka my brightest diamond was a surprise guest at the benefit and even though she only played two songs (one of which was an AWESOME cover of prince's how come u don't call me anymore), they were both showstoppers.  she is one hell of a musician and singer and she sang her heart out.  what a voice.  i'm actually going to include a video of it because you have to hear her to believe her.

st. vincent @ music hall of williamsburg - 1.23.10

annie clark aka st. vincent is so amazing. not only does she have a beautiful voice, but she is a force to be reckoned with on the guitar. she played a short set of covers including nico's these days and the national's mistaken for strangers. AWESOME.

justin vernon (of bon iver) @ music hall of williamsburg - 1.23.10

i am also a huge bon iver fan. and a volcano choir fan. really, i'm a justin vernon fan. i first saw bon iver play in july 2008 in the same venue and he was just as terrific.  this time, not only did he back up nearly every other musician on the bill, but he played some beautiful songs solo, too.

britt daniel (of spoon) @ music hall of williamsburg - 1.23.10

i am a HUGE spoon fan, so getting the chance to see britt daniel in a more intimate venue than last time i saw spoon play in prospect park was a thrill.  he only played three songs, but they were all amazing.  their new album transference is excellent.  pick it up immediately!

zach galifianakis @ music hall of williamsburg - 1.23.10

on saturday, january 23, i attended the first of two haiti benefit concerts i had tickets for. both shows had crazy lineups and this one, curated by brooklynvegan, was thrown together in two days, which is shocking, because the talent he lined up was a long list of indie rock and alt-comedy royalty. zach galifianakis, wyatt cenac (of daily show fame), leo allen, bobby tisdale, janeane garofalo, john shade, justin vernon (of bon iver), st. vincent, my brightest diamond, and britt daniel (of spoon). CRAZY lineup. and i still can't believe that i got tickets.

anyway, zach galifianakis was HILARIOUS. the odd and sometimes disturbing banter, the half-told jokes, the piano schtick...it was all too much.  my ribs still hurt from laughing.
